Story
It was in 2017 that Ludovick, a speedball addict for several years seeing the sport losing accessibility in the region, approached the owner of Paintball Fort Ouest in Arundel, Daniel Fournier, with the project of starting a team. A year later, the first team, the Westnutcrackerzs, was born.
The following year, in 2019, it changed its name to The Kings and ranked 6th out of 15 in the MIPL, which testifies to the meteoric growth of this young team.
It was not until 2023 that it took on the name Northern Legion.
Today, the team has 24 players and competes in divisions 5, 4 and 3 of more than one league in Canada and the United States. Several new faces make it up, but a few are those who have been there since its beginnings almost 7 years ago.
What is speedball?
Speedball, a more formalized variant of paintball, is a sport that is played on a field of approximately 150 feet by 120 feet on which are symmetrically arranged bunkers which are in fact large balls of different shapes and sizes.
On this field, two teams compete, normally of 7 players each, but it can also be 3, 5 or 10. The goal of each team is to press the buzzer, which is located in the opposing team's camp, by eliminating as many adversaries as possible using guns firing paintballs. A game lasts only a few minutes, the pace of play is fast. Rules and field configuration vary from league to league.
